CWA 1118 LPAT team is pleased to annouce that Governor Cuomo signed a bill today, Thursday, 2/6/20, allowing striking workers to file for unemployment two weeks after being on the picket line.
New York is one of only a handful of states that offers unemployment benefits to striking workers. Previously, striking workers had to wait seven weeks before they are eligible to file for unemployment benefits unless there is a lockout or their employer hires replacement workers.
Union brass applauded the move.
“This a huge victory for unionized workers who until now had to endure an incredible hardship by waiting seven weeks to claim unemployment benefits,” said AFL-CIO president Mario Cilento.
