The taxpayer-funded BEAD program was designed to expand fiber in unserved areas. CWA fought and won strong labor standards + prevailing wage requirements – setting Verizon up to WIN BIG in NYS.
But in June, WASHINGTON Rigged the Rules:
Requires work to go to “Lowest Cost” bidder
Eliminated Fiber Preference
Gutted Labor Standards
The Result?
Starlink got 25% of the work while Verizon got just 7.5%. This Administration’s rule changes cost our members good jobs and lined Elon Musk ‘s pockets with taxpayer dollars.
