12/2/21:

Bargaining with the American Red Cross has been beyond frustrating.  The lengths the company will go to divide the members and the coalition is never ending.

American Red Cross Mission Statement

• The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. 

Union Response:

• American Red Cross needs to treat their staff, our members, with the respect these frontline workers deserve as without their sacrifice, blood wouldn’t be collected, and lives would not be saved.  

Health care: Due to covid the coalition proposed extending the existing contract one year with a 3% raise and the company agreed providing the coalition agreed to switch our members to a lesser health care plan.  Obviously this was a no go.

• The coalition has been asking since day one of bargaining for a health care proposal.  With open enrollment ending on 11/19/21 American Red Cross came to the table on 11/17/21 and proposed of a two tiered health care plan that TeamCare states doesn’t even exist.  

Covid: with most employers, when an employee is exposed to COVID on the job; the employer pays that employee for any lost time wages - but NOT the AMERICAN RED CROSS - this “humanitarian organization” forces staff to burn their vacation balance or take the time off unpaid.  

Wages: ARC continues to disrespect senior staff by offering more money to new hires and basically spitting in the face of those who have dedicated their life to the job.

Staffing: the coalition continues to fight for safe staffing levels yet ARC continues to run drives short staffed, causing fatigue and heightening potential errors and injuries.
